Delft University of Technology is the largest technical university of the Netherlands, with approximately 23,500 students and 5,200 staff. The university covers virtually the entire spectrum of engineering sciences, divided across 40 departments in 8 faculties. As part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, the department of Hydraulic Engineering is at the forefront of innovative research, as well as educator of the water experts of tomorrow.

It is relevant to mention the following about Delft University of Technology:

  • Strong ties to the Dutch water sector, through cooperation with e.g. Rijkswaterstaat, Deltares, and technical consultancy firms, ensure a focus on social relevance and applicable research.
  • Water-related problems are occurring and investigated around the world. Within the department of Hydraulic Engineering, there is strong cooperation with universities, governments and companies worldwide.
  • In the unique outdoor laboratory facility Flood Proof Holland, innovative designs for flood defense systems are tested.
  • The Task Force Fact Finding Floods established immediately after the flood disasters in July 2021, was lead by TU Delft.
